Incumbents Win Re-Election To Tribal Panel

Associated Press

Incumbents Samuel N. Penney and Wilfred A. Scott easily won re-election to the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee during the tribe’s weekend General Council meeting.

Penney later was chosen by fellow executive committee members as chairman. He succeeds Charles “Pete” Hayes.

Tonia Garcia, an employee of the Nez Perce Tribal Housing Authority, took the third open position on the executive committee in a runoff with Vanessa Carter-Lopez. Garcia replaces Barrett Moffett, who chose not to run for re-election.

Penney, Scott and Garcia all were elected to three-year terms.

It is the 40-year-old Penney’s third term on the executive committee. He first was elected in 1982 and has served as chairman twice before.
