Union Leader Plans To Seek Re-Election

AFL-CIO President Lane Kirkland, brushing aside leadership challenges and the retirement of his second-in-command, announced Tuesday he will seek a ninth term at the helm of America’s troubled union movement.

Kirkland, 73, made his announcement at a news conference at the council’s spring meeting, where SecretaryTreasurer Thomas R. Donahue detailed his plans to retire.
