Plan Would Establish Neighborhood Councils

From Staff Reports

The first in a series of meetings on neighborhood empowerment begins tonight at 7 in the council chambers of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.

A council subcommittee - including Mayor Jack Geraghty and council members Phyllis Holmes and Chris Anderson - will present its plan to establish neighborhood councils throughout the city.

The councils would recommend action or policy to the City Council on issues such as zoning, land use, parks and traffic.

“Basically, we’re attempting to provide citizens with the types of resources that would make them better equipped to address neighborhood concerns,” said Casey Jones, the project coordinator.

Seven meetings - all starting at 7 p.m. - will take place during a four-week period.

On Tuesday, committee members will talk to residents at North Central High School, 1600 N. Howard. On Wednesday, they’ll move to Shadle Park High School, 4327 N. Ash.
