Man Kills Neighbors, Self Over Missing Cat

Compiled From Wire Services

A man shot to death two of his neighbors then killed himself a few hours before the reason for his rage - his missing cat - showed up safe and sound.

The shootings occurred Wednesday in Oropedio, a village in northern Greece near the town of Grevena. According to reports Thursday, Yiannis Karayannopoulos was convinced his neighbors had stolen the cat.

The 87-year-old farmer shot construction worker Thomas Koletsos as he was leaving for work. Hearing the shot, Koletsos’ wife, Chrysanthi, came running. Karayannopoulos shot and killed her as well.

Karayannopoulos then went back home and killed himself with his shotgun.

Villagers reported to police the cat returned home later Wednesday.
