Berean Bible Church, 10910 E. Boone, will host a special performance by the African Children’s Choir next Sunday.
The 26-voice, Grammy-nominated choir is currently touring the United States to raise money to support needy children in Eastern Europe and Africa. All performances are free - money is raised through freewill donations given by the audience.
“They’ve been here before, and it was great,” said the Rev. Dennis Haney, pastor of Berean Bible Church. “They’ve been on many television shows, and have sung all over the world.”
The group of 5- to 12-year-old children was formed nearly 10 years ago. Initially, its purpose was getting the word out about the hardships Ugandan orphans endured under the reign of Idi Amin. Now, the group is working with the Friends in the West relief organization to raise money for children the world over.
Some of the organization’s current projects are providing food and medicine to children in war-torn areas like Rwanda, Bosnia and Croatia.
The group’s repertoire includes traditional African songs, as well as gospel and children’s tunes.
The performance is scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 21. For more information, call Berean Bible Church at 924-8832.
