Moos Heads To Oregon As New A.D.

Bill Moos, athletic director at Montana the past five years, was hired Friday as head of the athletic department at Oregon.

Moos, 44, called the Oregon athletic program “one of the premier programs, not only in the Pac-10, but in the entire country.

“There are only a handful of programs that I would have left Montana for.”

Before taking the Montana job, Moos was on the staff at his alma mater, Washington State, for eight years as A.D., director of development and associate athletic director.

He was an all-conference football lineman for the Cougars in 1972.

Moos becomes Oregon’s first full-time A.D. since Bill Byrne resigned to become A.D. at Nebraska in the fall of 1992. At that time, Oregon football coach Rich Brooks, now with the St. Louis Rams, took on the dual role as head of the department.

Brooks stepped down last fall to concentrate on football. Since then, the university’s vice president for administration, Dan Williams, has served as interim athletic director.

Moos was one of four finalists for the Oregon job. The others were Fresno State A.D. Gary Cunningham, Lafayette A.D. Eve Atkinson and Arizona State associate athletic director Herman Frazier.
