Idaho wildlife officials are steamed about the 45 moose poachers killed between June and February.
“Outdoor enthusiasts need to understand that poaching causes a significant drain on Idaho’s wildlife resource, not just moose, but all our big game species,” said big game biologist Lloyd Oldenberg. “The figures are very disturbing.”
Fifty moose died from collisions with cars, snowmobiles, trains or other causes during the period. But the 45 moose illegally killed equal almost 7 percent of the number of legitimate hunting licenses issued statewide, and 8.5 percent of the moose harvested.
