Ex-Councilwoman Wins Appointment

City councilwoman Susan Johnson has been appointed the new director of the Bonner Business Center, an agency geared to help fledgling businesses.

Mayor Ron Chaney recommended Johnson for the $30,785 post Monday. City Council members voted 4-1 in favor of Johnson. Councilman David Sawyer was the only dissenter. He said the selection process for the job was flawed and other qualified candidates who applied never were interviewed.

Johnson has resigned her council seat to take the position. She also plans to resign as head of Sandpoint Unlimited, an economic development group for Bonner County.

Chaney will recommend a replacement for Johnson on the council next month. The candidate must be approved by the full council and will face election this fall along with the mayor and three other council members.
