Bryan Herta, who missed much of last season with racing injuries, received a concussion when he crashed during practice for the Indianapolis 500.

Herta, who finished ninth as a rookie at Indianapolis last year, had completed a lap at 221.500 mph before his ReynardFord came low through the second turn and made a half-spin 450 feet into the wall with the left side.

Herta was taken from the track in an ambulance and transferred to nearby Methodist Hospital downtown. He was reported awake, alert and in stable condition.

The University of Alabama was ordered to make public the NCAA’s official letter of inquiry regarding rules violations no later than June 2.

The university was seeking to withhold the details of the letter until the NCAA investigation was completed.

The defending champion Kamloops Blazers defeated the Detroit Jr. Red Wings 5-4 to improve to 2-0 at the Memorial Cup major junior hockey championships in Kamloops, British Columbia.
