Council Approves Comprehensive Plan

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Post Falls City Council on Tuesday approved the city’s new comprehensive plan, replacing a document dating back nearly 20 years.

“It’s a plan that looks at the long-range dreams of a community,” said Collin Coles , associate city planner. “It kind of focuses on the city.”

A comprehensive plan is of most interest to developers, business people and real estate agents trying to chart the city’s future. Two years in the works, the document describes the city’s ideal traffic patterns, growth, parks and economic development for the next 15 years.

“This is what we’d like. Now we have to go do it,” said Coles.

The plan predicts that Post Falls, its population now growing 8 percent per year, will have added 2,000 homes and apartments by 2010. The population of the city and its so-called area of impact is expected to grow from about 20,000 now to 37,000 by 2010. One of the city’s chief goals, Coles said, is to bring commercial development to the city, long a bedroom community for Coeur d’Alene and Spokane.

Printed copies of the plan should be available within a month, Coles said. City officials also have a few copies of the draft comprehensive plan.
