Some Sort Of Deception Afoot

Nancy Bloom

Dear Nancy: I have recently separated from my husband and have plans to file for divorce. I have had this dream four or five times in the past year. Does it have significance for me? - Katy

I am with a very attractive man and he is telling me wonderful things like “You’re so beautiful, wonderful, sexy, etc.” I am super happy and feeling very close to him. We kiss passionately and then I’m repulsed because his tongue is tattered and frayed.

Dear Katy: Dreams often contain vivid illustrations of issues we need to address in our lives. Your dream is a good example of this and suggests problems involving communication and discernment.

The man speaks lovingly to you but, in his kiss, there is a distressing discovery that all is not well or what it seems to be.

The tongue is a symbol of communication. Words can hurt or heal. His tongue is tattered and frayed indicating a communication problem. There is also an element of deception. Is someone trying to charm you with promises and flattery? Could you be misleading yourself regarding another’s intentions?

I believe this dream is a message from your inner self saying all is not as it appears with this person.

Your repulsion is an appropriate response to that information. Trust your intuition, Katy, and you’ll be able to recognize the situation this dream illustrates.

Dear Nancy: I find myself in a process that overwhelms and inspires me: finding out who I am and what I want to do in my life. I’ve been restless for years, moving a lot, searching for the “right” location.

I sent this dream hoping it might provide some insights. - Mickey

I am walking home to fix dinner carrying a very small child (the size of a cat). As we walk, a large spaceship begins to hover directly over and then in front of us. As we watch, we hear a melody, like a heartbeat. A vibrant green square appears in the center of the ship and becomes larger, breaking into four pieces and extending to the outer edges of the ship. I am in awe. We arrive home and ask my parents to feel the experience and look at the ship. They say it is only the moon but I know otherwise. I awoke feeling peaceful and happy.

Dear Mickey: This dream has an archetypal quality in that the symbolism is magical and mythical in nature. These types of dreams tend to come when our lives are in upheaval and uncertainty.

The child is extremely small and could symbolize the part of you that is coming into being. It is unworldly and innocent and can see the ship. In contrast, your parents deny the existence of it. They illustrate the part of your psyche that is tied to the material and mundane and cannot feel, hear or see the ship.

All of your senses are heightened as you watch the ship. You hear a song like a heartbeat and see the green square expanding into four squares. The square is historically a symbol for wholeness and balance. The luminous green suggests new growth, fertility and health.

The hope and regeneration this dream brings is a gift from your higher self. By trusting the childlike aspect of your own nature you will recognize your own inherent wholeness.
