Plane Hits House; Two Believed Dead

From Staff And Wire Reports

A small plane carrying a family of three crashed into a house east of here Friday night, apparently killing two of the people on board and setting the home ablaze, officials said

The single-engine Cessna 177 Cardinal crashed about 9:30 p.m. into a house east of Kent, a city about 15 miles south of Seattle in south King County, near Crest Airpark.

It was carrying a husband and wife and their child, FAA spokesman Dick Meyer said.

FAA duty officer Lee Fryer said of the wife and child, “We believe they’re dead.” Their bodies were still inside the plane.

The husband, the pilot, was pulled out by the home’s owner and was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Meyer said.

No one in the home was injured.

“The residents of the house apparently were able to leave the residence,” King County police spokesman Dave Robinson said.

Power lines were knocked down, and both the house and the plane caught fire, Meyer said.

Police and fire crews were on the scene.
