Post Falls Girls Get Quick Start In A-1 Region I Track

The Post Falls High girls team is off to a fast start after the first day of the A-1 Region I track and field meet as a pair of Shannons claimed first places on Friday in Coeur d’Alene.

Shannon Siverson won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 4 inches, easily bettering her previous best this year of 15-11 1/4. Teammate Heidi Umthun placed second at 15-8 1/2 and will join Siverson at state next week in Boise.

Shannon Olson led another 1-2 Trojans’ finish in the 3,200 meters. Olson timed a season-best 11:44.16, finishing in front of Christina Finney’s 12:06.28.

In other results, Coeur d’Alene’s Gretchen Hammerberg won the pole vault by clearing 7 feet. Sandpoint captured the medley relay in 1:54.63. Lake City was second at 1:55.23.

In the boys’ meet, Coeur d’Alene’s Chris Cole (10:00.56) edged Sandpoint’s Chris Blood in the 3,200.

Post Falls’ Tim Cudmore soared 20-11 - nearly 10 inches longer than his previous best - for a comfortable victory in the long jump. Lake City’s Matt Lider picked up the second berth to state by jumping 19-11.

Sandpoint’s 3:37.34 easily won the medley relay.

The meet concludes today at Lake City High.

A-3 District I-II

Wallace’s multi-event standout Dana Streeter won the long jump at 15-9 3/4 on the first day of the girls’ A-3 meet at Kamiah. Grangeville leads the girls and boys team races.Grangeville’s boys scored 62 points and hold a big lead entering today’s concluding events.

A-4 District I-II

Kootenai’s Annie Goodson and Steph Lund went 1-2 in the high jump to pace North Star League girls on the opening day of the A-4 meet at Kamiah. Goodson cleared 4-10 and Lund 4-6 as the Warriors took the lead with 37 points. The Warriors also received a second from Danyal Hunter in the discus (94-5).

Kootenai won the medley relay in 2:04.4. Falls Christian’s Sarah Peterson was second in the long jump at 15-6 1/2.

In the boys’ meet, Kootenai’s Dan Usdrowski placed second in the shot put (42-10 1/2). Teammate Justin Derbyshire was third at 41-10.

Clark Fork took second in the medley relay with a time of 3:49.0.
