Bravo, Margie May

She has sent students on to Juilliard, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.

She has accompanied famed opera singer Robert Merrill.

Her students have gone on to recording careers with labels such as Windham Hill and BMG.

Yet when we asked Margie May Ott, 74, to tell us the proudest moment in her six decades as a Spokane piano teacher, her answer was surprising and touching.

Hint: It has nothing remotely to do with Carnegie Hall.

Find out what it was in the profile of Ott in today’s IN Life section. You will also discover why more than a hundred of her former students pitched in to commission an important solo piano work in her honor. The title: “Basic Training.”
