Sandpoint Sandpoint High School’s journalism staff knows how to put together a newspaper.
The Cedar Post recently won a national award for excellence and a statewide sweepstakes award for the 1994-95 school year.
In addition, Cedar Post staffers have won eight national awards this month from two different contests and several individual awards at the same level.
SHS journalism students walked away with four national awards, including a ninth place Best of Show award, in the Journalism Education Association’s National Convention in San Diego, Calif. April 7-9.
The recently published alumni paper was the issue entered in the Best of Show contest, which included high school newspapers from all over the nation.
“When the speaker was announcing the Best of Show winners, (adviser) Mrs. Love said that we could just relax because it was almost impossible to win this award,” said senior Chad Berkley. “When they said, ‘Sandpoint High School Cedar Post,’ I was kind of asleep. Mrs. Love was so excited she threw me out into the aisle and said, ‘Go get it!”’ “It’s wonderful that these students can be so honored for their hard work and many hours of devotion to their paper,” Marianne Love said. “It’s nice to see that the Best of Show Award is on our wall. That’s a tribute to the whole staff.”
