Developer Will Pay For New Traffic Light

A traffic study for a proposed subdivision along Nine Mile Road concludes that the developers of Wind River Place should not have to pay for improvements at Rifle Club Road. Wind River Place is proposed for 24 acres at Nine Mile Road and just north of Wind River Addition.

A traffic study indicates that the 71 homes, along with three other projects still to be built, would dramatically affect the level of service at Nine Mile Road and Rifle Club Road. But Wind River developers are off the hook because Buster Heitmann already has promised to build a stoplight there for his project, which includes 96 homes and 36 multifamily units.

Heitmann will pay between $80,000 to $120,000 to install a traffic light at the intersection, city engineers said. As a result, “the level of service at this location will rise back to acceptable levels and stay there for many years in the future,” according to the Wind River traffic study on file with the city.

Wind River is being proposed by Rod Plese, Michael Graham and Craig Condron.

City Traffic Engineer Bud Volken said officials aren’t concerned about the issue of equity, as Heitmann has offered to pay for the new traffic signal. “If we have a person willing to write a check for the whole amount, it doesn’t matter to us,” he said.

xxxx Public hearing The city hearing examiner will take public comment about Wind River Place at 9 a.m. June 6 at City Hall.
