The Woodman? Please, Tonya Has Her Standards

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

So what’s felonious figure skater Tonya Harding been up to lately? Turning down job offers, according to her frustrated handlers.

Sheri Spillane, a partner in Ruth Webb Enterprises, told US magazine that Harding has received 35 inquiries, including a TV make-over with Leeza Gibbons, a soft-drink endorsement, an appearance on SHE-TV, a guest shot on “Married With Children” and a role in a Woody Allen movie.

Harding said no to each and every one.

“It’s always something,” said Spillane. “One personal appearance involved a trip to Boston. Tonya said it was ‘Nancy Kerrigan territory.’ She feared retaliation.

“The ‘Married With Children’ episode, Tonya’s boyfriend didn’t like the script. As for the film, Tonya didn’t like Woody Allen’s morals.”

Loose talk

Actor/director Mel Gibson, on the aesthetics of his new film “Braveheart” (in Newsweek): “It’s quite beautiful, if disembowelment can be called beautiful.”

Isn’t she the one with the light brown hair?

Genie Francis turns 33 today.

They’re experts when it comes to denial

The good news: Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley celebrate their first wedding anniversary today. The bad news: fearing a fan stampede, the Metropolitan Museum of Art won’t let them film an upcoming “PrimeTime Live” interview in its Egyptian Temple of Dendur, as the couple had hoped.

Connie could’ve conducted herself better

Venerable newsman Walter Cronkite refused maestro Skitch Henderson’s help Monday night when he served as guest conductor for the New York Pops Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Said Cronkite: “You know, Skitch, we CBS anchors prefer to work solo.”

And it’s never to talk about her Newtie

And speaking of those CBS shenanigans, it turns out Connie Chung critic Kathleen “Kit” Gingrich isn’t so big on Dan Rather and his news bulletins, either. Complains the faithful “As the World Turns” fan: “He interrupts my shows.”

To the benefit of music fans everywhere

Paramount Television has taken “Entertainment Tonight” co-host-cumkeyboard-tinkler John Tesh to court, trying to block his request for an unpaid three-month leave this summer so he can concentrate on his songwriting and touring.

This time, he puts on a hooded parka

By popular demand, every red-blooded female’s favorite fantasy construction worker, shirt-shedding Lucky Vanous, is coming back to do another Diet Coke commercial. A Coca-Cola spokesman says the spot is “not a sequel, it’s a different approach.”
