Ev, Wv Softball Teams Bow Out State Aa Springfest

The East Valley and West Valley fastpitch softball teams each earned a victory Friday, but both lost twice and were ultimately eliminated in the consolation quarterfinals.

WV had defeated Lindbergh 10-2 in the first round as Darci Sohns struck out six in four innings of pitching and drove in two runs.

But the Eagles lost 9-3 to Capital in the quarterfinals. Capital pitcher Stacie Galbavy outdueled Sohnsm allowing just four hits while delivering two doubles, scoring twice and driving in a run. WV’s Kellie Haye led off the bottom of first win an inside-the-park home run and drove in two runs.

Mount Si ousted WV 9-7.

EV lost 15-5 to Shelton in its first game with Angela Overdorff deiving in two runs before the knights beat Lake Washington 17-1 on Tricia Stookey’s six-hit pitching. Stooley also went 6 for 6, with five singles and a triple, and four RBIs.

Castle Rock eliminated EV 3-0.

Baseball

Capital and Lindbergh will play for the championship today after Capital beat Seattle Prep 8-0 behind Jimmy Smith’s three-hit pitching and Lindberg went 12 innings to best West Valley-Yakima 2-0 as Tyler Willis struck out 15 in a four-hitter.< Tennis

Joel Scruggs of Spokane’s East Valley won his first-round match, but two straight losses knocked him out.

Scruggs lost in the quarterfinals to defending champion Jeff Eicher of SEattle Prep 6-0, 6-3.

Pullman’s boys doubles team of Mike Stratton and Mark Fraizer and Jo Pierce of Cheney also went 1-2.

In girls doubles, East Valley’s Nancy Hundrup and Barb Norquist tost twice to be eliminated.
