Gun Found In Cell Of Executed Inmate

Willie Lloyd Turner made no final statement before his execution Thursday night, but Friday his lawyer said the condemned man left a haunting souvenir: a loaded pistol hidden in the typewriter that Turner had taken to his final cell.

The lawyer, Walter J. Walvick, said he found the gun an hour after the execution, when he followed Turner’s last instruction: “Look in the typewriter.” State officials suggested the discovery might be a hoax.

Walvick said he discovered a compartment that contained a .32-caliber revolver. He called the police, who found that all six chambers were loaded.
