Big money nullified campaign

The recent defeat of the effort to form a city of Spokane Valley highlights a grave threat to the democratic process. It shows how big money for expensive advertising can nullify years of careful study by putting out buzz words completely unsubstantiated by facts, at the last minute, leaving no time for rebuttal, sowing doubt in the minds of the voters, who vote “no” when they are confused, fooling them into voting against their own best interests.

Those who voted against forming our own city in the Valley apparently did not realize they were leaving the door wide open to bigger, distant government, either absorption by the city of Spokane or into a consolidated city-county government. In either case, Valley citizens would lose, since they would be in the minority, outvoted by Spokane.

Without vision, the people perish.
