Runaway Car Kills Man, Injures Toddler

From Staff And Wire Reports

A runaway car operated by a 4-year-old boy plowed into a Port Orchard, Wash., yard Friday, hitting a 90-year-old man and his young great-granddaughter, police said. The man died.

The 14-month-old toddler, who suffered head and chest injuries, was listed in serious condition late Friday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The boy, who was not identified, put the 1981 Buick in reverse, sending it rolling 300 feet through a fence, over a cement retaining wall and into Maynard Lundberg’s yard, police Patrolman Ron Patterson said. The boy in the car was not injured.

Police were not recommending any charges against the boy’s mother, Patterson said.

The car was destroyed.
