Chase Of Burglar Left Man Panting

Compiled From Wire Services

Paul Berry heard a neighbor yell for help and dashed out into the night - without his pants.

“It wasn’t a pretty sight. You had me in my boxer shorts with my gut hanging out,” Berry said.

He joined the neighbor chasing someone he’d seen breaking into a third man’s pickup.

Berry’s wife followed, with his clothes. The neighbor’s wife came too, with a dog.

The neighbor’s wife kept yelling “Sic him! Sic him!” but the dog seemed happy to let the humans take the lead, Berry said of Wednesday’s pursuit.

Berry caught the man, but when he stopped to put on his pants, the suspect broke free and the chase resumed. So Berry caught him again.

“We were both so exhausted we just lay there and tried to catch our breath,” he said Friday.

The 19-year-old suspect was booked with burglary.
