Barbara Walker Spokane

Service for Barbara Lee “Smiley” Walker, 41, is planned for 4 p.m. Tuesday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.

Miss Walker, who died Thursday, was born in Newport, Wash., and attended Hillyard Baptist Church.

She is survived by two brothers, Jess and Larry Walker, both of Spokane; and four sisters, Betty Valentine, Ann Brown, Patricia White, and Mary Tanner, all of Spokane.

Thomas Anderson Spokane

Memorial service for Thomas Gordon Anderson, 81, was held Saturday at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church.

Mr. Anderson, who was born in North Dakota, died Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Hospital.

He served in the Army for 25 years during World War II and the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge and the French Croix de Guerre.

He had lived in the Spokane Valley for 45 years.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Anderson; four sons, Ronald, Roger, Richard and Thomas Smith; four daughters, Pamela Burlew, Patricia Woodford, Dawn MacDonald and Debra Anderson; one brother Milton; one sister Lilah; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.

Thomas Ferguson Inchelium, Wash.

Vigil service for Thomas F. Ferguson, 85, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash. Burial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael’s Mission Church, Inchelium, with burial at Hall Creek Cemetery.

Born in Inchelium, Mr. Ferguson died Thursday.

He worked as a logger for Boise Cascade for 19 years. He later worked for the National Forest Service in Lakeview, Ore., and for the Tribal Park Department. He retired in 1971.

He belonged to the Colville Confederated Tribes.

He is survived by one son, Tom Ferguson of Inchelium; two daughters, Beverly Smith of Mt. Vernon, Wash., and Karen Taylor of Fairbanks, Alaska; one sister, Esther Coe of Inchelium; one stepson, Howard Wilson of Inchelium; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Maybelle Russell Spokane

Memorial service for Maybelle C. Russell, 77, is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home-North.

Mrs. Russell, a homemaker, died Tuesday.

She was born in Anamoose, N.D., and had lived in Spokane for 48 years.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Russell; three sons, Ray and Lynn Russell, both of Spokane, and Howard Russell of Bellingham; three sisters, Florence Krause and Myrtle Haase both of Spokane, and Videll Elian of Riddle, Ore.; and one grandchild.

Johnnie Scharwat Spokane

O’Conner Funeral Home in Great Falls, Mont., is in charge of cremation for A. Johnnie Scharwat.

Mr. Scharwat, 81, died May 19.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School.

He worked for Krueger Sheet Metal from 1935 to 1982.

Mr. Scharwat was a member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by one brother, John Scharwat, and one sister, Olga Custer, both of Spokane.

Julia Sage Dalton Gardens, Idaho

Funeral Mass for Julia M. Sage, 76, is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will be at Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum, Idaho. English Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sage, who died Wednesday, was born in Providence, R.I.

She and her husband, Jack, moved to Naples, Idaho, in 1946, and Dalton Gardens in 1982.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Pius Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years; two sons, James Sage at home, and John Sage of Spokane; one daughter, Julie DeBuhr of Clarkston, Wash.; two sisters, Angie McEneaney and Eleanor Dykeman, both of Providence; and four grandchildren.
