Seahawks Balk At Report They’re Considering L.A.

Associated Press

Seattle Seahawks officials are denying a report that the team is considering moving to Los Angeles

“We want to stay,” David Behring, team president and son of owner Ken Behring, said in a statement issued Saturday night. “We have no intention of moving; we love our fans.”

Sports columnist Will McDonough wrote in Sunday’s Boston Globe that Ken Behring has been “working covertly to get his team” to fill the vacancy in Los Angeles created by the departure of the Raiders.

McDonough said Behring’s plan came to light at the NFL owners meeting in Jacksonville, Fla., last week. Raiders owner Al Davis told his colleagues that the proposed stadium deal at Hollywood Park was so good for the league that any owner could make it there. Behring volunteered to take it, telling owners he had been in L.A. scouting locations for a new stadium, McDonough said.

The Seahawks have approximately 10 years left on their lease at the King County-owned Kingdome. But Ken Behring told owners he felt the lease at the Kingdome had been breached due to what he perceives as shortcomings with the facility, McDonough said.

King County Executive Gary Locke told KING-TV on Sunday that the lease was still good and that the Seahawks would stay in Seattle for at least 10 years.
