Streets Blocked Off During Bomb Search

From Staff And Wire Reports

Several downtown streets were closed and nine city blocks were cordoned off as a precaution for more than three hours after an unoccupied rental truck was found parked near the Federal Building.

Explosives experts searched the truck Saturday at about 11:30 p.m. and found no explosives, said police spokesman Sean O’Donnell.

Lowell Henderson, a deejay aboard a cruise boat, left the rental truck parked near the north side of the Federal Building for about four hours, O’Donnell said.

Henderson had been performing on the boat for the Rainier Beach High School spring cruise. O’Donnell said Henderson approached the police blockade and said he needed to get to his truck.

Police used Henderson’s keys to search the truck.

After no explosives were found, police quickly disassembled their barricades and reopened city streets.

No evacuations of nearby buildings had been ordered.
