Compiled From Wire Services

Giuseppe Citterio took the 16th stage of the Tour of Italy when fellow Italians Giovanni Lombardi and Mario Manzoni were penalized by the jury for exchanging pushes in the final mass sprint.

Citterio was originally second behind Lombardi with Manzoni third.

It was a replay of Thursday’s finish, when the jury disqualified original winner Mario Cipollini because he pushed an opponent during the sprint and awarded first place to runner-up Jan Svorada.

Citterio completed the 145.08 miles from the Swiss resort of Lenzerheide to Treviglio, in northern Italy, in 5 hours, 44 minutes, 44 seconds.

Swiss Tony Rominger finished in the same time as the winner and retained the pink jersey of overall leader.
