Nba Expansion Team Looks For Coach Who Is A Proven Loser

Associated Press

Isiah Thomas is looking for someone who knows how to suffer.

The general manager of the expansion Toronto Raptors is in the process of selecting the NBA team’s first coach, and Monday continued his interview of Phoenix Suns assistant Lionel Hollins.

“The thing I want is someone who has won before, someone who understands winning and losing and understands the misery of losing,” Thomas told The Canadian Press. “Losing a lot can be really miserable, but you have to get back up and focus on winning.”

Also on Toronto’s list of candidates is former Detroit Pistons assistant Brendan Malone, Chicago Bulls assistant Jim Cleamons and television analyst and former Indiana Pacers coach Dick Versace.

Thomas wants to hire a coach before the June 28 college draft.

“You’re going to lose so much, how do you not become a loser yourself?” Thomas said. “Someone who can see into the future, who knows what it takes to win, those are the qualities you look for in a coach.”
