The Stats On Teens Aren’t All Bad News

Lots of teens do things right every day. One of the biggest complaints from teens is about how they’re treated and portrayed by adults and the media.

So, in celebration, Our Generation takes a look today at the other side of the coin. Here are some statistics (from a 1992 survey) that mark the achievements of many young adults:

69 percent of eighth-graders said they have never smoked a cigarette.

89 percent of high school seniors in Spokane County received their diploma.

36 percent of high school seniors in Washington do not drink or use drugs.

Drinking among people 14 and older dropped about 20 percent from 1980 to 1990.

74 percent of Spokane County eighth-graders said they knew where to get information about HIV/AIDS education.
