Kidnapped Mexican Official Found Dead

A man who won a recent local election and had been kidnapped a month ago has been found dead in the southern mountains of Chiapas state.

Ausel Sanchez Perez, winning candidate for county president in Angel Albino Corzo for the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, had been kidnapped by about 50 people on Sept. 18 from in front of his home.

State police found his decomposed body Monday about a quarter-mile from the village of El Porvenir.

Three men were in custody in the Cerro Hueco state prison in the capital of Tuxtla Gutierrez on murder charges. Eight more are suspects. All are members of the radical peasant group Francisco Villa Popular Peasant Union.
