Jockey Rides Five Winners; Twin Trifecta Pays $10,817

Jockey Darrell Brinkerhoff and 17 horseplayers had a great day Monday at Playfair Race Course.

Brinkerhoff strengthened his newly acquired grip on second place in the rider standings by collecting five victories. The happy bettors each picked up $10,817.80 for wagering on the winning horses in the track’s twin trifecta.

A Boston native who has been riding in Spokane and Montana for most of the last five years, Brinkerhoff turned in the top feat of the current season. He won both ends of a $288.20 daily double, scoring with Travesty Year ($29.60) and Arch Appeal ($22.60) in the first and second races. Then he took the third astride Tensed Johnny ($9.40), the fifth with Prairie Walker ($8.60) and the featured ninth aboard Skylark Lane ($6.20).

Brinkerhoff rode five winners earlier this year at Great Falls, Mont., where he also had five-win days in 1990 and 1991.

The winning bettors shared in a record twin-trifecta pool of $183,902.60 by selecting the first three finishers, in order, in the seventh and eighth races. There had not been a twin trifecta win for eight days, leading to a record carryover of $131,118.12 from previous days.
