Chinese Students To Visit Antarctica

Compiled From Wire Services

A group of Chinese students aged 10 to 16 will visit Antarctica to conduct scientific research next spring, a Chinese newspaper reported on Thursday.

The trip is part of efforts by China’s leaders to encourage patriotism, interest in science and concern about the environment, the China Daily reported.

China has established two permanent stations in Antarctica since its scientists started conducting research there a decade ago.

Two groups plan to raise about $480,000 to send 20 to 30 people on the youth trip.
