Americans Jim Courier and Michael Chang advanced to the quarterfinals with third-round victories at the Paris Open tennis tournament. Following his 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 third-round win over Andrei Medvedev, Chang said he will not be a member of the U.S. team for the Davis Cup final against Russia at the beginning of December in Moscow. Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Todd Martin and Jim Courier already are committed to playing.

Marty Liquori, who won national titles from the mile to 5,000 meters, heads the National Track and Field Hall of Fame Class of 1995. Liquori received the most votes and will be inducted with Olympic gold medalists Valerie Brisco-Hooks, Louise Ritter and Florence Griffith Joyner, Olympic coach Mel Rosen and the late Don Lach on Nov. 30 during USA Track & Field’s annual convention in Atlanta.
