Nic Newspaper Wins Top Awards

From Staff And Wire Reports

North Idaho College’s student newspaper, The Sentinel, on Saturday won two national awards from the Associated Collegiate Press.

The paper took a first-place national award for cartooning for entries from John Myers and Cori Flowers. The students’ work was judged by staff members at the Chicago Tribune.

Another first-place national award was won for Story of the Year. That award recognizes The Sentinel’s coverage of last year’s gay rights initiative in Idaho and the organization of a gay and lesbian club on campus.

Both first-place awards were given in competition against other college newspapers nationwide, regardless of school size.

Sentinel advisor Nils Rosdahl said 25 NIC students are attending the Associated Collegiate Press’ national convention in Washington, D.C. this weekend.
