Rock Pointe Project Scheduled To Begin

From Staff And Wire Reports

Work on a third phase of the Rock Pointe Center could start within the next two weeks, developer Walt Worthy said Tuesday.

He said construction of a five-story office tower containing 159,500 square feet of space and the addition of 500 parking spots will double the size of the complex, which opened in 1987.

A second phase was added in 1989.

Worthy said the existing 169,000 square feet of space has been fully leased for more than a year, with new tenants quickly filling gaps left by any who depart.

To alleviate traffic on Washington Street, he said driveways would provide access from the east and north sides of the site, and striping will be changed to redirect existing flow.

The first space should be ready for occupancy by mid-1996, Worthy said.

“I think it’s going to be a plus to the site and a plus to the neighborhood,” he said.
