Sabey Cuts Deal For Mail Service Center

From Staff And Wire Reports

Sabey Corp., the owner of NorthTown Mall in Spokane, has struck a deal with the U.S. Postal Service to create a $69 million processing and distribution center south of Seattle.

Sabey next month will begin renovation of a pair of buildings, totaling 590,000 square feet, at the company’s Oxbow Industrial Park in Tukwila, Wash.

The Postal Service has agreed to buy the Sabey buildings and lease 32 surrounding acres. The Postal Service will occupy the buildings in October 1996.

The new Seattle Mail Processing & Distribution Center and Delivery Distribution Center will employ 1,500 people to handle 8 million pieces of mail daily. The center serves 2 million postal customers.

The center currently is in a 40-year-old Seattle building that’s too small to accommodate high-speed mail sorting equipment and increasing mail volumes. , DataTimes
