A-3 Independent

Thu., Nov. 9, 1995

1994-95 record: 12-9 overall

Coach: Art Krulitz

Years coaching: 3

Career record: 25-19

Top returners: Joy Sperry, senior, 6-foot, center; Lisa Calabretta, 5-9, junior, forward; Lucia Gregory, 5-11, jr., forward.

Newcomers: Meghan England, 5-9, sophomore, guard; Heather Brandstetter, 5-4, freshman, g; Renee Sleezer, 5-1, frosh., g.

Bonus shot: A year of patience is what a very young Miners team is in for. The entire backcourt must be replaced, and Sperry is the lone senior with varsity experience.

Coach’s comment:”This will be a total learning year. We do have some speed, so we’ll run when we can, but we’re looking for these kids to be more disciplined. The guards are young; they’re going to have to grow into their positions. We have to play through the mistakes.”

Outlook: Sperry will carry the lion’s share of the load for Wallace. “Joy will be the dominating force. In practice already I can see that she jumps better, she’s stronger, quicker. Joy should have a good year.”

Potlatch is the only A-3 foe Wallace meets during the regular-season, but the Miners do play four A-2 foes, including 1994 and 1995 state runner-up Bonners Ferry. Wallace opens the season Monday against Mullan in the Silver Valley Tournament.
