Crawford A Model Of Awful

Hollywood declared “Fair Game” on the new thriller by supermodel-turned-actress Cindy Crawford, and the results weren’t pretty.

According to figures compiled by Exhibitor Relations Co., “Get Shorty” captured the top spot among the nation’s box offices by grossing some $9.7 million. That figure upped the three-week total earned by this adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s novel to a cool $40.1 million.

Way back in fourth place, behind holdovers “Powder” and “Copycat,” “Fair Game” proved two things:

One, that even the prospect of seeing a sexy supermodel shirtless won’t bring out the crowds (it earned just $4.9 million);

Two, the only way Crawford could pull off a convincing performance is by undergoing a talent transplant with Jodie Foster.

While “Fair Game” earned more money than fellow premiere “Home For the Holidays” (No. 6, $4 million), it earned far less on a per-location average. “Fair Game” played in 1,949 locations for a $2,538 average, while “Home For the Holidays” played in 1,000 locations (a $4,008 average).

The other debut was “Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain” (No. 9, $2.5 million).

In limited release, Woody Allen’s “Mighty Aphrodite” earned $808,000 while playing in just 152 locations (which amounts to a $5,317 per-location average).
