Snow Sport Report

Compiled By Conrad Jungmann

Alpine skiing

The snow this week made many enthusiasts start digging for gear. Unfortunately, the snow came, it saw, and quickly melted away in most areas. Here are the scheduled opening dates for area ski resorts.

Lookout Pass: Nov. 18

Silver Mountain: Nov. 22

Schweitzer: Nov. 23

Mount Spokane: Nov. 23

Bluewood: Nov. 17

49 Degrees North: Nov. 18

Endless Winter, Warren Miller’s new ski thriller will be showing Nov. 18 at the Spokane Opera House at 6 and 9pm. Tickets are $11.50 and include a free lift ticket to Schweitzer.

Nordic skiing

A few powder hounds made it to Mount Spokane this week

before rain and warm temperatures erased the first snow of the season. Employees plan to start packing and grooming as soon as 4-5 inches accumulate, hopefully before the International FIS race, Dec 8-10. Updates: 238-4025.

The Methow Valley is the hot spot right now. Last week, as much as 2 feet of snow fell in some places. Some of it melted away, but many trails were packed and grooming could begin next week. Info: (800) 682-5787.

Snowmobiling

There’s not enough snow on the region’s snowmobile trails to start grooming, but some districts report minimal activity in the high country and high passes.
