Governors Will Discuss Education Reform

From Staff Reports

The governors of several states will be in Coeur d’Alene Tuesday to discuss the state of education reform in a national meeting of the Education Commission of the States.

Recent results from a national poll show that almost six out of 10 parents would prefer to send their children to private schools if they could afford it.

But Americans are not ready to dismantle the public school system, even though they don’t know how to improve it, the survey results also indicate.

Those surveys will be on the agenda of the steering committee of the commission, which meets in Coeur d’Alene Monday through Wednesday.

The Education Commission of the States is a non-profit, nationwide organization formed in 1965 to help governors, state legislators and education officials develop policies to improve education.

Governors from Idaho, Colorado, Iowa, Georgia and Utah are expected to attend. , DataTimes
