Mildred Sponagel Spokane

Visitation for Mildred G. Sponagel, 92, is planned from noon to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service is set for Monday at noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Sponagel, who was born in Wessington Springs, S.D., died Wednesday.

A 55-year Spokane resident, she was a homemaker and was a member of the Salvation Army, Salvation Army Ladies Home League and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51 Auxiliary.

Her husband, Floyd Sponagel, died in 1989.

Mrs. Sponagel is survived by two daughters, Letty Walker of Greenacres and Esther Bria of Arlington, Wash.; one son, Arthur Sponagel of New Mexico; two sisters, Ruth Sedlak of North Dakota and Marie Abey of Sandpoint; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.

Melvin ‘Slim’ Martin Spokane

Service for Melvin D. “Slim” Martin, 84, will be at 2 p.m. today at Spokane Friends Church. Graveside service is planned for noon Monday at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Ellendale, S.D., Mr. Martin died Thursday.

He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s in South Dakota, Idaho and Washington. He had worked at Farragut Naval Training Station as a civilian during World War II, and for 24 years he was a shear operator at Kaiser Aluminum in Trentwood. He retired in 1973.

He had lived in Spokane for 47 years and was a member of Hayden Lake Friends Church and a charter member of the Spokane Friends Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ruby E. Martin, in 1987.

He is survived by one son, Melvin Martin Jr., of Spokane; five daughters, Bonnie Hendrickson of Davenport, Wash., Frances Wells of Newport, Wash., Ara Jane McBournie and Ruby Douse, both of Spokane, and Patti LaShaw of Rockford; 125 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

John Wooley Spokane

Service for John A. Wooley, 84, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Riplinger Funeral Home with burial at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Wooley, who died Wednesday, was born in Strong, Ark.

He had lived in Spokane for 48 years and worked for Hughes and Co.

He is survived by his wife, Mable Wooley of Spokane; one son, two sisters, one brother, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marlene Morgan Valley, Wash.

Service for Marlene M. Morgan, 61, is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash. Burial will follow at Valley (Wash.) Cemetery.

Mrs. Morgan, who was born in Marysville, Wash., died Wednesday.

She married Gerald Morgan in Alaska in 1968. She had lived in the Valley area for 18 years.

She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Arden, Wash.

She is survived by her husband; two stepsons, Tom Morgan of Battle Mountain, Nev., and Jim Morgan of Davenport, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Susan Meyer of Deer Park; and five stepgrandchildren.

Eldora Crook Priest River, Idaho

Memorial service for Eldora K. Crook, 80, is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at Priest River Community Congregational Church. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Crook, who was born in Clarkston, Wash., died Monday.

She had lived in Priest River for more than 40 years.

She graduated from Kooskia (Idaho) High School in 1934 and married Murvle Crook in Asotin, Wash., later that year.

During World War II, Mrs. Crook worked for Boeing Aircraft Co. in Seattle.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Carol Baker and Mariel Crook, both of Spokane; three grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

Dan Gargano St. Maries

Memorial gathering for Dan Gargano, 55, will be today at 11 a.m. at 12825 N. Muzzy, Newman Lake. Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Gargano, who died Sunday, was born in Chicago.

He was a real estate broker and had worked for Pyramid Realty, now ERA Four Season Realty, in Coeur d’Alene.

He had served in the military.

He is survived by his wife, Marie-Cecile; and two daughters, Natalie and Stephanie Gargano.

Barbara (Naccarato) Lundy Priest River, Idaho

Service for Barbara E. (Naccarato) Lundy, 50, was Friday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Priest River. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River.

Mrs. Lundy was born at Eglin Field Air Force Base in Florida.

She died Wednesday at Newport Community Hospital from cancer.

She had lived in Priest River since she was an infant and worked as a bartender at several establishments.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce; her parents, Bill and Edith Naccarato, of Priest River; one son, Wayne Davison of Priest River; one brother, Mark Naccarato of Chewelah, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Eva Papineau Colfax, Wash.

Memorial service for Eva J. Papineau, 82, will be at 10 a.m. today at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax.

Mrs. Papineau, who was born in Colfax, died Wednesday at home.

She and her family moved to Casper, Wyo., and returned to Colfax, where she graduated from high school.

She married Vern Papineau in Los Angeles in 1937.

They lived in California until 1952 when they moved to LaCrosse, Wash. They moved to Colfax in 1988.

She was a member of the LaCrosse Reading Club.

Mrs. Papineau is survived by her husband, Vern; one son, Roger Papineau of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; one daughter, Phyllis Hotchkiss of Puyallup, Wash.; one brother, George Appel of Colfax; one sister, Mary Jane Fennimore of Tacoma; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Henry Heuer Spokane

Memorial service for Henry James Heuer, 83, is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd-North is in charge of cremation.

Born in O’Fallon, Ill., Mr. Heuer died Wednesday.

He received a civil engineering degree from the University of Illinois.

Mr. Heuer served 22 years in the Air Force and was stationed at Fort George Wright at one time.

Following his discharge, he worked for 12 years at Lockheed in Sunnyvale, Calif.

He retired 22 years ago and moved to Spokane.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Roberta Heuer; three daughters, Katherine Keeney of Spokane, Kandice Border of Milpitas, Calif., and Dianne Quillen of Fairfield, Calif.; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church.

Gwendolyn Crouch Spokane

Memorial service for Gwendolyn L. Crouch, 82, will be at 1 p.m. today at Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Crouch, who died Wednesday, was born in Hillyard and graduated from Hillyard High School.

She was a homemaker and a member of Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ and the Hillyard Rebekah Lodge, Sarah Chapter.

Her husband, Ralph Crouch, died in 1985.

Mrs. Crouch is survived by one son, Paul Crouch of Des Moines, Wash.; and one sister, Catherine Evans of Spokane.

Priscilla Lilly Spokane

At her request, no service will be held for Priscilla Ann Lilly. Her ashes were sent back home to Maine.

Ms. Lilly, 37, died Oct. 25 from a heart attack.

Born in Gardiner, Maine, she had lived in Spokane for 15 years and worked at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute as a therapy aide.

She is survived by four brothers, Gilbert Lilly of Litchfield, Maine, and Anthony, Peter and Ron Lilly, all of Richmond, Maine; three sisters Lornia Towle of Richmond, Vickie Kenney of Litchfield and Catherine Lilly of Norway.
