Compiled From Wire Services

Four days after discussions with Arizona Diamondbacks officials, former New York Yankees manager Buck Showalter has reportedly agreed to sign on as the expansion team’s first manager, ESPN reported.

Wade Boggs filed for free agency, but he has no desire to leave the New York Yankees, his agent Alan Nero said. Meanwhile, Don Mattingly formally severed ties with the Yankees on Friday and filed for free agency but will continue to negotiate with the team.

Four other players filed, increasing the total to 135 with two days remaining in the filing period. Joining Mattingly were Texas Rangers pitchers Danny Darwin and Jeff Russell and San Diego Padres pitcher Fernando Valenzuela.

Three players who were eligible agreed to deals. Jeff King will get $2.5 million in each of the next two seasons at Pittsburgh, Ken Caminiti and San Diego finally agreed to a two-year contract worth $6.1 million, Chicago White Sox catcher Ron Karkovice got a two-year contract from that club worth $3,675,000.
