Telephone Updating Project Completed

From Staff Reports

GTE has switched over the last North Idaho community phone system to digital switching, updating Bovill’s prefix area last weekend.

The last change finished a more than two year project to update North Idaho’s phone system to the most modern technology available, said Bob Wayt, spokesman for GTE in Portland.

Bovill, in Latah County, represented the 28th switching station upgraded in a $150 million project in Idaho.

The new switching stations can provide a variety of new features for GTE customers, such as caller identification for residential phones and high-speed data transfer for businesses.

The new switches haven’t cost GTE’s North Idaho customers, Wayt said. , DataTimes
