Colfax Holds On To Win State A Volleyball Championship

Colfax held off a late surge by Ridgefield to win 9-15, 15-9, 17-15 and capture the State A volleyball crown in Chelan on Saturday. Colfax also defeated LaCenter (15-9, 15-6) and Meridian (15-11, 16-14) earlier in the day.

The Bulldogs’ Angie Hall finished the day with 33 kills and Amy Zimmerman had 62 assists, with 24 coming in the title match.

Deer Park went 0-3 in the tournament and finished eighth. The Stags lost to Meridian (15-9, 13-15, 15-12), LaCenter (15-11, 11-15, 15-12), and Omak (9-15, 16-14, 15-13).

East Valley was eliminated from the State AA Tournament on Friday. In the Knights’ first trip to state in five years, they defeated Evergreen in their first match, but lost their next contests to Seattle Prep and two-time champ Selah. Farrah Parsley led EV with 20 blocks in the tournament.

Soccer

After a scoreless regulation period and two overtimes, Deer Park/Riverside lost to Hanford 1-0 in a shootout in a State AA quarter final game at Riverside.

Hanford (21-0-0) fought off 21 shots on goal by the Stags while DP/R keeper Maria Roy had 10 saves, keeping the game knotted at zero and sending the teams into a shootout.

The shootout score was 6-5 with Yvonne Volkman scoring the winning goal for Hanford.

Northwest Christian goalkeeper Nathan Thompson’s only two saves sealed a victory for the Crusaders, who defeated Wahluke in a shootout 3-2 in a State A/B boys quarterfinal game at Kennewick.

With the score tied at 2 after regulation, Thompson’s first key save came in the first overtime when he saved a Wahluke penalty kick. After a scoreless second overtime, the teams went into a shootout. Thompson’s second save preserved a NWC 2-1 win in sudden death. The Crusaders advance to the semifinals next Friday at Shoreline Stadium.

In a State B-11 first-round game, Oroville defeated Garfield-Palouse 43-28 at Oroville.
