Scores Die In Crash Of Nigerian Airliner

Compiled From Wire Services

A Nigeria Airways plane carrying at least 129 people crashed upon landing Monday in northern Nigeria, and news reports said 77 people were feared dead.

It was one of the worst airline crashes in the history of the West African nation, which already has a poor aviation record.

Tina Abia, a spokeswoman for Nigeria Airways, confirmed the Boeing 737 crashed at Kaduna airport about 7 a.m., but refused to give further details.

The plane was flying from the central Nigerian city of Jos to Kaduna, 400 miles northeast of Lagos.
