Cda Officials Not Taking Water Samples

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department issued a warning Tuesday that someone claiming to need water samples has been approaching elderly residents and asking to be allowed in their homes.

Capt. Carl Bergh said the city water department has received several calls from people who have been approached by a man in his 30s.

No crimes have been committed as far as police can tell, Bergh said.

The city is not conducting such a sampling, and Bergh said he knows of no other entity conducting any water sampling in the city.

Bergh said water department employees carry identification cards. When samplings are done, in almost all cases the water is taken from a source outside the house. The city usually conducts such tests on Mondays.

“Any time a stranger comes to your door with a request to take a water sample or do an inspection of your premises, you should always inquire as to the reason and ask for some form of identification,” Bergh said.
