Taipei Citizens Can Rid Addresses Of Evil ‘Four’

Compiled From Wire Services

The Taipei city government has decided to allow residents to delete the number four from street addresses because it sounds very similar to the word “death” in Chinese.

In a statement Tuesday, the government said it decided to allow the change following numerous complaints from residents, who regard the number as unlucky.

Last year, authorities began issuing car license plates without the number four for the same reason.

Many hospitals name the fourth floor as the fifth because of the superstition.
