Bombing Suspect Mailed Death Threat To Andrus Self-Named Prophet Of God, Arrested By Fbi, Sent Former Idaho Governor Explicit Letter

Bill Miller Staff writer

A self-proclaimed prophet of God who is a suspect in a national bombing plot mailed an explicit death threat a year ago to then-Gov. Cecil Andrus of Idaho.

“What does Almighty God plan to do to this Nation and to your state during the next six months?” the letter asked Andrus.

“Why are you going to be removed from office by force of arms and put to death?” it continued.

“Unless there are some real changes on your part,” the letter warned Andrus, “you will die.”

The document is signed by Ray Lampley, “prophet of the most high,” for the Universal Church of God, in Hanna, Okla.

Lampley, 65, and his wife, Cecilia Lampley, 47, are among four people arrested by the FBI last weekend in Oklahoma on federal bombing conspiracy charges.

The suspects are affiliated with a white supremacy sect in an eastern Oklahoma community known as “Elohim City.”

They are accused of plotting to blow up the Anti-Defamation League office in Houston, the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala., and unspecified “places where homosexuals gather.”

Bomb components were found at the Lampleys’ home, the FBI reported.

The letter to Andrus doesn’t make clear why Lampley and his militant church group were threatening the Idaho governor’s life.

It makes references to politicians who aren’t following God’s law.

It also says God will remove from office politicians supporting health care reform, national identity cards and federal crime bills.

Andrus was traveling Wednesday and couldn’t be reached for comment.

One former aide recalled receiving the letter and said it was referred to the Idaho Department of Law Enforcement and the state’s Human Rights Commission.

The letter apparently was not referred to the FBI.

An FBI official in Boise said he first learned about the death-threat letter on Wednesday when he was asked about it by a reporter.
