Duck Hunter’s Body Recovered In Field

The body of a Maple Valley duck hunter who was washed away last week by the flooding Snoqualmie River was recovered Wednesday morning in a flooded field in east Snohomish County.

Dean Savoy’s body was found by divers near the river in about 10 feet of water, said Jan Jorgensen, a spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Savoy had been missing and presumed drowned since Nov. 8, when he and a friend were hunting south of Monroe. The men were caught off guard when the Snoqualmie went over its banks and filled their hip boots with water, weighing them down.

David Taylor, 28, was able to remove his boots and swim to safety with the aid of Savoy’s Labrador retriever. He later led authorities to the area where Savoy had gone under.

An autopsy by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s office to determine official cause of death is scheduled for today.

After five days of searching, divers found Savoy’s body in an area near where the two men had been hunting. Jorgensen said the water had previously been too muddy for divers to spot the body.
