Food Drives, Free Dinners Target Needy

As Thanksgiving Day approaches, churches and organizations are again turning their thoughts to helping the needy in Spokane, North Idaho and the surrounding area.

Ann Price of the Spokane Food Bank said last week that donations were already coming in. “The Boy Scout food drive last Saturday was a main supplier as far as nonperishable foods go,” she said. One-third of the 165,000 pounds collected will be used in Thanksgiving baskets. The rest will be set aside in an emergency allocation for cold winter months.

KREM-2 television is helping out by sponsoring an all-day Turkey Drive today, Price said. Donations can be dropped off at Speedy Auto Glass locations in the Spokane area and Coeur d’Alene.

If you want to receive a food basket from the Food Bank, call 534-6678 in Spokane for the location of an outlet serving your area.
