Gunman Robs Bank Customer At Cash Machine

An armed man robbed another man at a Spokane Valley cash machine early Monday while the victim’s wife waited in the car.

The couple had driven to Washington Trust Bank at 100 N. Pines to use the cash machine about 1 a.m. When the husband went to the cash machine to withdraw money, a tall man dressed in black approached him, pulled a chrome-plated handgun and demanded money.

The 25-year-old victim gave the robber an undisclosed amount of cash. The robber then ordered the man to withdraw more money from the cash machine.

The robber took the money and ran around the corner of the bank and continued east on Main.

A sheriff’s dog was able to track the robber’s scent for a short distance before losing it, said Sheriff’s Lt. David Wiyrick.

Boy helps man burgle garage

Two people were arrested following a break-in at a Valley home Friday morning.

When deputies arrived at the house in the 500 block of South Custer about 11 a.m., they saw a boy in the back yard. The 11-year-old climbed over a four-foot, chain-link fence and ran from the yard, but deputies caught him behind the house.

Meanwhile, Doug J. Lafebre, 39, was arrested inside the garage, Wiyrick said.

Lafebre pried siding on the garage loose so the boy could crawl inside the garage and unlock the door for him, deputies said.

Deputies recovered items stolen from the garage near the house, Wiyrick said.

Lafebre, who gave his address as 519 S. Custer, was charged with second-degree burglary and booked into county jail.

Drugs found, woman arrested

Deputies arrested a woman on drug charges Monday while investigating a report that she tried to cash a stolen check.

A Rosauers employee called deputies and told them a woman was trying to cash a stolen check. Deputies questioned Pamela M. Baxter at the supermarket at 15510 E. Sprague.

When they questioned Baxter about the check, deputies said, they found methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia. Baxter, 32, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the stolen check, Wiyrick said.

Door kicked in, man arrested

Deputies arrested a man they say kicked in the door of a house Saturday.

Tony X. Huston, 20, was arrested for second-degree malicious mischief.

Deputies said witnesses identified Huston as one of a group of people kicking a door at the house in the 21700 block of East Wellesley.

Damage to the door and wall was estimated at $400. Huston was booked into county jail.
